New Member Experience

The whirlwind of going through Recruitment, being extended a bid and then joining Kappa for life can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Kappa gives our new sisters a warm welcome by extending friendship and mutual support through our new member program.

The new member period is a time to learn about the Fraternity and educate women on the expectations and requirements of being a Kappa. Each new member is given a Big Sister to guide her through this new stage of her life. New members also attend a retreat to foster and develop the new friendships and connections within the chapter.

The new member period is such a special time, and holds many of our sisters' favorite memories within Kappa. From meeting their first friends in Kappa on Bid Day, to fun activities at the new member retreat, to finding out who their big is, and finally the excitement of initiation, the opportunities to grow closer within their Member Class are endless!

"Hey y'all! My name is Avery Basham, and I have the honor and privilege of serving as Kappa Kappa Gamma's New Member Experience Director! Our team has spent so much time preparing and anticipating the chance for each of you to join our sisterhood.

These next few years will be filled with so many memories, and we can't wait to make more with each of you! This chapter holds such a special place in my heart, and I am eternally grateful for the lifelong friendships and community that Kappa has brought me.

As New Member Experience Director, my goal is to facilitate a smooth and easy transition into college and this chapter for our new members! I am here to offer my love, support, and guidance as a mentor and leader throughout this journey. My mission is for every girl to feel loved and seen and for each of them to find their place here in Kappa.

I have personally witnessed how this chapter creates a sense of belonging for everyone, and I know that each of you will find your place! I can't wait to welcome MC '26 home and lead them through the best four years of their lives!"
